Aston Villa transfer target has ‘already packed his bags’

Aston Villa are being linked with a move for a Ligue 1 defender as they come to terms with the loss of Diego Carlos to injury.

Aston Villa are now in need of a defender after a frustrating injury blow.

The Lions spent significantly to land Sevilla star Diego Carlos this summer, but the centre-back is now set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

It has been confirmed that Diego Carlos has ruptured his Achilles, and there are few more serious injuries for footballers.

It’s a huge blow for the defender and for Villa, who may now be forced back into the market to sign a replacement.

According to Jeunes Footeux, Marseille are pushing to sell centre-back Duje Ćaleta-Car this summer.

The 25-year-old is also said to want to leave, with teammate Bamba Dieng also expected to move on.

The report, which comes via SportWitness, claims Marseille chief Pablo Longoria is ‘waiting impatiently’ to offload the two players to free up funds for Marseille.

It’s reported Marseille want more than £9million to sell Caleta-Car, who is being linked with a move to Villa.

Caleta-Car has already discussed a move to Villa, Torino, Sevilla and Inter Milan.

But So Foot are saying the centre-back has ‘already packed his bags’ ahead of a possible move to Villa Park, interested in joining former teammate Boubacar Kamara in the Midlands.

Steven Gerrard is yet to comment on whether he will dip back into the market to replace Diego Carlos.

He said after witnessing the injury: “You can see by the player and the man that he’s not the type to go off easy.

“He looks concerned with it and the medical staff seem concerned and that’s the reason why I’m worried about it.”

The bad news has since been confirmed, and it will now be interesting to see whether Villa spent on a replacement, and indeed whether Caleta-Car is the man they decide can fill the void.
