The blockbuster January transfer Aston Villa could seal to send shockwaves through Premier League

Aston Villa have the chance to bring in some new faces when the January transfer window opens up for business

Aston Villa find themselves in 6th position in the Premier League table after their first 11 fixtures. They are only one point off the top four after their 4-0 win over AFC Bournemouth last time out. Emi Buendia, Amadou Onana, Ross Barkley and Donyell Malen got their goals against the Cherries.

The Midlands outfit are back in action this weekend following the international break. They face an away trip to Elland Road to play Leeds United on Sunday. Their upcoming opponents were beaten 3-1 against Nottingham Forest in their last outing and are just above the drop zone.

Aston Villa should eye West Ham star Jarrod Bowen

According to CaughtOffside, West Ham attacker Jarrod Bowen is considering leaving the London Stadium amid links to the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United and Liverpool. If this is true, Aston Villa should throw their hat into the ring. His contract with the Hammers expires in June 2030 meaning they are under no pressure to sell him anytime soon and can wait for the right money.

Bowen, 28, has been a key player for his current club since joining them back in January 2020. He has scored 77 goals in 250 matches in all competitions, three of which have come this season. In addition, he fired their winner in the Europa Conference League final against Fiorentina in Prague in 2023.

The Herefordshire-born man started his career at Hereford United and broke into their first-team as a youngster. He was then snapped up by Hull City and subsequently became a key player for the Tigers in the Championship. The England international, who has 20 caps to his name so far, found the net on 54 occasions in 31 outing during his time in East Yorkshire to secure a transfer to the top flight and he hasn’t looked back since.

Why West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen would be ideal for Aston Villa

West Ham will struggle to keep hold of Bowen if they drop into the Championship. They are currently in the relegation zone with Wolves and Nottingham Forest. Nevertheless, they have won their last two matches on the spin against Newcastle United and Burnley so have had an upturn of form under the guidance of Nuno Espirito Santo.

Bowen would be ideal for Aston Villa if they managed to lure him to Villa Park. He would significantly bolster their attacking department and would inject more quality into their squad. In addition, he is a proven goal scorer at the top level and is lethal on his left foot as he cuts in from the right.

The forward had an unsuccessful trial with Villa at the age of 10 so may feel he has unfinished business there. Unai Emery’s side may be able to offer him Champions League football next term which should be the next natural progression for the player. They missed out last term and were forced to settle for the Europa League but are hoping to get themselves back in the top competition this time around if possible.

Pundit Ally McCoist hailed Bowen earlier this year and said: “One thing I don’t think’s up for debate – West Ham United are a far better team with Bowen playing in it. He just gives them something special, doesn’t he? Good, good player, he’s been a great signing I’ve got to say.”
