Swap deal update

Weston McKennie has ‘priced himself out’ of a move to Aston Villa as part of Douglas Luiz’ exit to Juventus, according to a report by Football Insider. The midfielder was set to be included in a deal but his wage demands are too high.

The USA international, who has 53 caps under his belt, had a loan spell at Leeds United last year. However, he didn’t enjoy his time in Yorkshire and has since said: "My time at Leeds was probably one of my lower points, if not the lowest in my professional career.

"I always look at the positive because I was at Juventus, playing week in and week out, and maybe I developed a little bit of comfortability or complacency, knowing I was going to play on the weekend. By going to Leeds and having the performance that I had there and the way that it just turned out in general -- four coaches in five months, just nothing going to plan or how I imagined it.

"Football is a world where it's sometimes unforgiving. People obviously don't know what football players go through and the stress football players put on themselves to perform, because it's not like we want to perform badly.”

McKennie started out at FC Dallas before moving over to Europe as a teenager in 2016 when FC Schalke came calling.

He then played 91 senior matches during his Germany days and landed a transfer to Juventus in 2020, initially on loan before it was later made permanent.

The 25-year-old has since played 103 games for the Serie A giants and has found the net on eight occasions. His future is up in the air right now though but it appears that Villa Park will not be his next destination as Unai Emery aims to bring in some new faces.

Wolves star eyed

Newcastle United are interested in Wolves winger Pedro Neto and have asked about his availability this summer, as per HITC Sport. The 24-year-old moved to England in 2019 and has since made 135 appearances in all competitions, scoring 14 goals.

He rose up through the ranks at SC Braga and broke into their first-team as a youngster. The attacker then had a loan spell in Italy with Lazio before his switch to Molinuex.

Gary O’Neil will not want to lose him over the next couple of months. However, if he was to leave, it would free up space and funds in their ranks to bring in other reinforcements.

Newcastle have also been linked with defender Max Kilman, as well as Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin as they aim to freshen up their ranks under Eddie Howe.
