Villa move for England defender is “one to keep an eye on”

Liverpool defender Joe Gomez was linked with a move to Villa Park during the January transfer window and could be on the radar once again this summer.

The England international has struggled for game-time at Anfield and has made just four starts in all competitions for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Journalist Tom Collomosse believes the situation is “one to keep an eye on” as Villa look at add to their defensive ranks.

He said: “They’re (Villa) looking for a top class centre-back and although he’s still improving in some ways, Joe Gomez is an England international, Premier League champion and played in the best competitions.

“I think that’s definitely one to keep an eye on.”

Jamie Carragher believes Aston Villa should complete the permanent signing of loan star Philippe Coutinho - and described the reported £33million asking price as “a snip”.

The Brazilian International joined Villa on loan until the end of the season and he has impressed during the first two weeks of his return to the Premier League.

It is believed Villa have already placed a set fee into the agreement they made with Barcelona and Carragher insisted the deal is one they must complete this summer.

He told Sky Sports: “He definitely has something to prove in coming back, in terms of, ‘I am still a big player’.

“He scored a wonder goal for Brazil.

“He is still playing for them.

“If Aston Villa can get him sorted at the end of the season, for £33 million, then it’s a snip.”
