Aston Villa: These are the foods new manager Steven Gerrard has banned his Villa players from eating

It’s not just on the pitch that new Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard is having an impact - he is making his presence known off the pitch too by banning his players from eating certain foods.

New Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard has started his new reign at Aston Villa by implementing some wholesale changes at the club, as the new era at Villa Park gets underway.

And what better way to get into the mix than banning players from eating certain foods?

Fizzy drinks, ketchup, mayonnaise, puddings and hot chocolate has all been axed from the canteen in the midlands, in a bid to make his team more fit.

The former Liverpool midfielder signed a three-and-a-half year deal with Villa just 10 days ago, after over three years at Glasgow Rangers, and has wasted no time on making changes.

He replaced former head coach Dean Smith after Villa lost five games in a row, with Smith’s last game being a poor 1-0 defeat to Southampton and St Mary’s on bonfire night. Smith was at the club for over three years, and led Villa to promotion and was at the helm when Jack Grealish was sold for £100 million.

The former Rangers boss got off to a dream start as Villa beat high-flying Brighton 2-0, with late goals from Ollie Watkins and Tyrone Mings being enough to see off the ‘Seagulls’.

Gerrard’s standards are reportedly very high, and have resulted in numerous items being removed from the .

The decision was made with help from the science department, and the items banned will prohibit players from consuming “empty calories”

Aston Villa’s next game is against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, Saturday November 27 at 3pm.
