Aston Villa are back in action on Thursday night with a tricky away trip to Craven Cottage to take on Fulham. Pressure is mounting on boss Steven Gerrard after their 2-0 defeat to Chelsea last time out.

It has been a slow start to the season for the Midlands outfit and they will be eager to start getting more points on the board as quickly as possible. Here is a look at some of the latest news regarding the club...

Aston Villa have not sacked Gerrard, despite Football Insider reporting last night that the ex-Rangers boss has been dismissed. The club’s communications director Tommy Jordan has taken to Twitter to quash the speculation, labelling them ‘lies’ (see tweet below):

New boss linked

Mauricio Pochettino has been linked with a potential switch to Villa Park. He left PSG in July and has since been weighing up his next move in the game. According to a report by The Telegraph, he will be a ‘target’ if Villa decide to make a managerial change.

The former Argentina centre-back managed Tottenham Hotspur from 2014 to 2019 and guided them to the Champions League during his time there. He has also had spells at Espanyol and Southampton in the past.

Ex-Aston Villa man secures new club

Scott Sinclair, who played for Aston Villa during the 2015/16 campaign, has signed for Bristol Rovers. He rose up through the youth ranks at the Memorial Ground and has re-joined the League One club. The former Celtic attacker has been a free agent since parting company with Preston North End at the end of last term and has since been weighing up his next move in the game. He has played over 500 games in his career to date.
