They picked up an impressive 1-1 draw at home to champions Manchester City in their last match which they will be hoping can give them some confidence.

Here is some of the latest news coming out of the club...

Swap claim

Aston Villa managed to keep hold of Douglas Luiz beyond the transfer deadline this past summer.

The midfielder was heavily linked with a departure but stayed with the club.

The Express has now claimed Liverpool could include Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in a potential ‘swap’ deal if they were to rekindle their interest in the Brazilian in January.

Striker target in surprise move

Espanyol attacker Raul de Tomas was linked with a move to Villa Park in the last transfer window.

The Spain international was looked at by Steven Gerrard’s side, as reported by the Daily Mail, but a move to England didn’t happen for him in the end.

He is now closing in on a surprise switch to Rayo Vallecano but won’t be able to play for them for four months, according to Spanish news outlet Marca.

No Cash

Aston Villa wing-back Matty Cash has been left out of Poland’s squad for their games at the end of September.

The full-back has made seven international caps so far in his career.

However, as per a report by Birmingham Live, he is still ‘nursing’ a hamstring injury that he picked up in the last clash against Manchester City.
