West Ham and Aston Villa joined in Ligue 1 striker chase amid Bundesliga interest in starlet

Aston Villa are back in action this weekend when they face Midlands rivals Wolves at Molineux.

Steven Gerrard’s men will be desperate to return to winning ways after back-to-back defeats, and they will need to do so in order to hold onto their top-half position.

But in the meantime, preparation will have to continue without a number of key stars, with the international break rumbling on.

Mavididi blow

The Lions have been linked with a move for Montpellier star Stephy Mavididi as they continue assessing potential striker signings.

But it looks as though the competition is only getting more and more intense, with Jose Mourinho and Roma now said to be in the race, according to FootMercato.

West Ham and Newcastle have also been linked, which complicates things for Villa.

Villa firm on Archer stance

Villa youngster Jordan Archer is said to be attracting interest ahead of this summer.

Archer has garnered admirers with his impressive performances for the youth sides, as well as his cup outings with the first team.

According to the Express, regardless of interest from the Bundesliga, Villa will not entertain any offers for Archer or Carney Chukwuemeka, who is also said to be of interest to a number of clubs.
