Aston Villa youngster Cameron has been linked with a move away all summer after a superb loan spell with Preston North End last season.

However, West London Sport have reported that the forward is expected to remain at Villa Park past tonight’s transfer deadline.

Archer scored seven goals in the second half of the previous campaign and a number of clubs had been eager to snap him up following his return to Birmingham, with Watford and QPR the most recent sides linked.

The Hornets had been rumoured to be keen on bringing Archer in on loan as part of the deal that would have seen Ismaila Sarr go the other way, however the deal failed to materialise when the Sarr transfer collapsed.

It was thought that Steven Gerrard was previously eager to keep the 20-year-old at the club during pre-season as a chance to prove himself worthy of his first-team plans and it looks like he may have done just that.

Archer was confirmed to have signed a new five-year contract with the Villans last month, however he is yet to be handed a real chance and has only featured for around 15 minutes in the Premier League this season.

The England youth international faces competition from the likes of Ollie Watkins, Danny Ings and Leon Bailey to claim a spot in the starting line-up.

As the season progresses Archer will be hoping he is eventually given his opportunity in the English top flight as he looks to impress at his boyhood club.
