Tottenham could look to launch a £32 million bid to land Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz, according to the Daily Mail.

A fresh report on Spurs’ transfer plans suggest that they are “panicking” after missing out on a number of key targets this month, and could look to test the Villans’ resolve with a late offer for the South American.

Luiz has just 18 months left to run on his contract at Villa Park, but has featured in all but four of their Premier League matches so far this term and remains an important figure under new manager Steven Gerrard.

For their part, Villa are trying to add another midfielder of their own, but have seen a £20 million offer for Rodrigo Bentancur rejected by Juventus in recent days.

Who else is interested in Luiz?

Aside from Tottenham, BirminghamWorld understands that Arsenal are also keeping tabs on the midfielder, and could look to make a late move for the player having seemingly missed out on his compatriot Bruno Guimaraes.

Likewise, Manchester City, who Luiz played for before Villa, are also said to be keen, as are Everton.

Of those four clubs, however, it would appear that Spurs and Arsenal the most likely to press ahead with a formal bid in the coming days.

What has Steven Gerrard said about Luiz?

Villa boss Gerrard has made no secret of his admiration for Luiz.

Speaking earlier this month, he said: “Douglas is a fantastic player, really talented and we rate him extremely high.

“We want to keep all of our best players around.

“We understand there will be interest in our best players as well, we don’t have a problem with that.

“But yes we want to keep all of our top talent around, we see Douglas as a top talent, a really wonderful footballer on his day.

“It’s my job to try and make this team and this squad as strong, littered with top footballers - it is what it is.”
