Aston Villa player ratings vs Manchester City: Five minute collapse ruins ‘perfect’ Villa gameplan

For 70 minutes it was a masterclass and then the rest... well, it’s history.

A second-half collapse which stretched over the period of just five minutes saw Aston Villa throw away what would have been an historic win over Manchester City.

Matty Cash had City fans twitching when he nodded home in the first-half before Philippe Coutinho’s wonderfully taken goal on 70 minutes put the claret and blue in dreamland.

But just as happened a decade ago, City turned on the rockets and turned the game around in five second-half minutes.

Substitute Ilkay Gundogan slotted home on 76 minutes before Rodri levelled things up on 78 and that man Gundogan again completed the turnaround on 81.

The Etihad erupted with a mix of jubilation and shock with those Villa fans in the far corner struggling to fathom what had just happened
