Morgan Sanson looks set to depart Aston Villa this summer after a disappointing spell in the Premier League.

The midfielder has failed to make an impact since his move in January 2021 and Football Insider are claiming that his former club Marseille are interested in re-signing him.

Sanson has made only ten appearances in the Premier League this season and it was reported earlier this month that he is now surplus to requirements at Villa Park.

With the Midlands club already looking to bolster their midfield this summer, they have placed a £10 million price tag on the Frenchman’s head - around £5 million less than they paid for him.

Marseille - where Sanson spent four years - will be jumping at the chance of re-signing Sanson, who enjoyed his best form with the Ligue 1 club.

Meanwhile it will provide space and extra cash for Villa to bring in a new midfielder to compete with Douglas Luiz, Jacob Ramsey and John McGinn for a spot in the starting line-up.

Football Insider previously revealed that Aston Villa are planning are £150 million plus spending spree this summer as they look to back Steven Gerrard in his first summer transfer window.

Despite spending around £90 million last summer, the Premier League side have struggled for consistency this campaign and currently find themselves only eight points above the relegation zone.
