Aston Villa new boy Marcus Rashford will feel that he has a point to prove

Aston Villa’s move to sign Marcus Rashford on loan from Manchester United has raised eyebrows. The 27-year-old will spend the rest of the season at Villa Park.

The Mancunian has fallen out of favour at Old Trafford over recent times. He has been frozen out by Ruben Amorim and will now feel he has a point to prove in the Midlands.

Aston Villa have brought him in to boost their attacking ranks. He will give them more competition and depth going forward.

Simon Jordan assesses Marcus Rashford’s Aston Villa move

Simon Jordan has challenged Rashford to take his ‘opportunity’ at Aston Villa with both hands following his recent arrival. The pundit believes the player took it upon himself to force out a move away from United.

He has said on talkSPORT: “They replaced one temperamental, truculent, entitled with another, it would appear. Duran has gone out to Saudi because he can’t get what he wants at Villa. He’s gone at 21 years of age to play substandard football because he wants a bag of money, and Rashford gets a bag of money and goes b****r-all for it. I think it’s likely to be a good transaction for both football clubs. You bet your bottom dollar he will (perform well at Aston Villa).

He added: “Rashford will go and do a job. Rashford is a good player. He’s not a world class player, he’s a good player. Subject to him being fit and getting back into the swing of things, I think he will go and perform at Aston Villa. He has little choice because if he goes out to Aston Villa and stinks the place out, he’s not going to be able to hide behind the culture of Manchester United any more is he? The culture at Aston Villa is very good. The feeling at Aston Villa is very good. The opportunity is his.”

He added: “Rashford made the choice for him (Amorim). There wasn’t a problem in the camp from what I gather until Rashford decided to take it upon himself to have an interview with Henry Winter and tell everybody how dissatisfied he was. What do you do with that if you’re a manager? You’re like, what the hell is that about?”

Jordan also took to X on 1st February to post: “Hmmm #avfc #rashford A whiff of both Coutinho about it and get rid of one temperamental player Duran with tickets on himself! Good club good culture, seemingly good dressing room, I know let’s bring a player whose attitude has been, let’s be kind less than exemplary.”

Will Marcus Rashford succeed at Aston Villa?

A change of scene will probably do Rashford good over the coming months. Leaving United suits all parties involved and Aston Villa will give him plenty of game time to express himself.

The England international is in line to make his debut in the fourth round of the FA Cup this weekend against Tottenham Hotspur. Unai Emery’s side then play Ipswich Town at home in their next league outing.

After joining Villa, Rashford has said: “It’s an ambitious time for this club and a great opportunity for me to join the team and help them keep pushing forward. I’m excited, can’t wait for the first training session and obviously the first game.

“(Unai Emery is) a top manager and what he’s done at the club since he’s come to Villa is unbelievable. It’s the constant ambition that’s attractive, and it’s why you want to join such a club. You want to keep improving year on year, and that’s what the team has been doing and are doing this year."
