Aston Villa man linked with exit and manager ‘keen’ on Midlands switch

The latest Aston Villa news and rumours on Sunday

Aston Villa are back in action next weekend away at Leeds United.

Steven Gerrard’s side make the trip to Elland Road after winning their last outing 1-0 at home to Southampton.

Jacob Ramsey scored the only goal of the game in that one.

Here is a look at the latest news and rumours coming out of the club...

Goalkeeper interest

Atletico Madrid are being linked with a move for Aston Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez.

The former Arsenal man could be targeted by the Spanish giants if they sell Jan Oblak.

That’s according to The Mirror, who claim Diego Simeone’s side have identified him as a potential future addition.

Latest on linked player

Plymouth Argyle have tied up a new deal for goalkeeper Callum Burton in case Villa-linked Michael Cooper moves on.

Cooper, 22, has already made over 100 appearances for the League One side and is being tipped for a bright future in the game.

Their boss, Steven Schumacher, has told Plymouth Live:

“If Michael got injured or moved on then Callum would step in because he’s a very good goalkeeper. So that was the first and foremost what we wanted to do.”

Ex-Premier League boss is interested

Maurico Pochettino is said to be interested in managing Aston Villa.

The former Tottenham Hotspur man is believed to be open to a return to England.

According to a report by Football Insider, he would be ‘keen’ on a move to Villa Park if the managerial vacancy was to become available.
