Aston Villa midfielder Morgan Sanson is reportedly attracting plenty of interest from Ligue 1 this winter. The Frenchman is being linked with a return home in the upcoming January transfer window.

According to a report by Jeunes Footeux, Strasbourg, Nantes, Stade Brestois and FC Lorient are all ‘interested’ in handing him an escape route from Villa Park next month. He has slipped down the pecking order with the Premier League side and has seen his game time dry up.

Aston Villa swooped to sign him back in January 2021 but he has made just 21 appearances in all competitions for the Midlands outfit since then, with only one coming in this campaign. His contract expires in June 2025 meaning he still has a couple of years left to run down but most signs point towards a premature exit.

Prior to his move to England, Sanson spent his whole career to date in France. He started out at Le Mans as a youngster before going on to have successful spells at Montpellier and Marseille.

His move to Villa hasn’t gone to plan and getting him off the books would be a shrewd move by Unai Emery as he looks to put his own stamp on his newly inherited squad. His side were in Boxing Day action against Liverpool yesterday but were beaten 3-1 by the Reds. Next up is an away trip to Tottenham Hotspur as they look to bounce back.
