It was a heartbreaking end to an amazing tournament for the Lionesses when they lost the Women’s World Cup final 1-0 to Spain.
Thousands across Birmingham watched the nail biting match in Sydney in pubs, clubs and homes with three of the football stars from Aston Villa. Jordan Nobbs and Rachel Daly played their part to bring football home with former Villa star Hannah Hampton who has recently left the Birmingham club to join Chelsea.

Rachel said: “This one will hurt for quite some time but my overriding emotion is pride. We gave it our all. Every player and staff member in this incredible team gave it absolutely everything. Unfortunately it wasn’t meant to be but what a journey.
“We didn’t get the win but being a part of this team is a win in my eyes. We continue to push boundaries, inspire our wonderful nation and next generation and ultimately; make history. What a ride it has been, 9 weeks in Australia away from our loved ones and fans but we heard all of you.
“Thank you for the unwavering support near and far, we appreciate you all. Time for some much needed R&R with family and friends and continue to be the best we can be & strive for more. Much love.”

“To the fans thankyou so much for all the support back home and to those who travelled! this team has so much more to give and we will keep creating history and memories.”
The game has been tipped to give a £185 million boost to the UK economy, with former England striker, Ellen White, telling the BBC: “This England side can be so proud of what they have done for this tournament, what they’ve done for women’s football, what they’ve done for our sport back home as well, inspiring a generation and inspiring and empowering women as well. England will be in finals again for sure.”
