To say Aston Villa are in a strong position at present would be an understatement. Unai Emery’s side are currently second in the Premier League table and with progression secured in the FA Cup and the Conference League, they’ve a lot to look forward to in the coming weeks and months.

However, the club may well be tempted to dip into the transfer market too this month in order to help them over the line in the second half of the season. Here’s a look at some of the headlines emerging from Villa Park this evening.

Villa eye League One defender

Aston Villa are the latest club to be linked to Peterborough United youngster Ronnie Edwards this month. West Ham United and Crystal Palace are said to have already registered their interest in Edwards but, according to the Mail on Sunday, they have been joined by Villa in pursuit of the 20-year-old.

Edwards has been a key man for the Posh this season, starting every league fixture and helping the club launch a push for promotion under Darren Ferguson. As such, Peterborough are reluctant to lose the defender with Palace reportedly seeing three bids rejected.

Villa aren’t necessarily short of options at the back, but the England U20 international is highly rated and could be seen as one for the future.

Summerville latest

Crysencio Summerville is happy to remain at Leeds United this month, despite reported interest from the likes of Newcastle United, Brighton and Hove Albion and Aston Villa. The winger has been in fine form for the Whites this season and it comes as no surprise to see his name being linked to a host of Premier League clubs.

However, it seems those interested might have to delay any moves until the summer transfer window with the winger more than willing to stick around at Elland Road this month. According to Football Insider, Summerville is focused on helping Leeds back to the Premier League at the first time of asking this season with the club making it clear that he won’t be leaving.

Such a stance shouldn’t stop Villa testing the water, but it seems any deal might have to wait until the summer.
