There is now just one round of Premier League fixtures remaining before domestic football goes on hiatus and the FIFA World Cup finals in Qatar take centre stage.

Aston Villa have an EFL cup clash with Manchester United at Old Trafford to contend with before they face Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday in what will be their last competitive match for well over a month. The Villians will be looking to build on last weekend’s impressive victory over the Red Devils last weekend before returning after Christmas just one week ahead of the January transfer window opening.

New head coach Unai Emery will have his first chance to start shaping the Villa Park first team to his vision and could very well return to his former club for one of his first signings as Villa boss. Per a report from HITC, the Spaniard is interested in signing Nigerian winger Samuel Chukwueze from La Liga outfit Villarreal. The 23-year old was a key part of the Yellow Submarine team under Emery and it would not be the first time the former PSG gaffer attempted to sign him, having been keen on the then teenager while he was in charge at Arsenal.

Chukwueze, who is said to be considered one of the most exciting players in La Liga, would reportedly be available for a fee of €63m (£55m) in January. The winger, who has previously drawn comparisons to former Chelsea, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich superstar Arjen Robben due to their similar playing styles, has spent his entire senior career at the Estadio de la Cerámica. The 23-year old has played over 150 first team games for the club and scored 27 goals in all competitions.

The Nigerian is apparently not the only Villarreal attacker that Emery could attempt to bring to the Premier League with Yeremi Pino and Nicolas Jackson also said to be on the 51-year old’s radar. Pino is a player who has been linked with several of Europe’s top clubs having already established himself as a key player for the club and won six caps for Spain despite being just 20-years old. Jackson, 21, is another promising young attacking midfielder who has spent his entire senior career so far with Villarreal.
