After the 1-0 defeat at Man Utd on Sunday, Unai Emery gave an update on Aston Villa’s injured players.

Unai Emery is hopeful that ‘one or two’ of his four injured players will be available for Aston Villa’s next Premier League fixture, away at Wolverhampton Wanderers. The Villans’ head coach was disappointed with his side’s 1-0 defeat at Manchester United on Sunday but was already looking ahead to the challenge that follows.

It was a tight clash at Old Trafford as Villa were definitely inferior in the first half but improved in the second. The away side really could’ve done with some added firepower on the bench to push for an equaliser, but the substitutes were largely made up of youngsters and utility players.

There were of course plenty of individuals with great potential there, but Emery likely would’ve appreciated some more Premier League-ready names to turn to. Injuries certainly haven’t helped over recent weeks as Boubacar Kamara, Matty Cash, Philippe Coutinho and Leon Bailey have been sidelined for a while.

The concern over squad depth could soon change, though, with Emery revealing there will be some returns to the grass in the coming days. “I don’t know exactly but we are going to add for the next training session, we are going to add players,” Emery said on Sunday.

“The four players we have out now are close to starting training with us. Maybe we could get one or two to be with us in the next match against Wolves, but of course, maybe we will need more time to try to use them with good performances after their injuries,” Emery continued.

The loss against United was the first defeat Villa have suffered since February 18, with 10 successive matches unbeaten. This purple patch has enabled the men in claret and blue to become genuine contenders for a top-six finish, but tough games against Wolves, Tottenham, Liverpool and Brighton are still to come.

Emery will be hoping his currently injured players can have an involvement.
