Aston Villa defender Alex Moreno is returning to training this week as he steps up his road to recovery from injury. He had surgery over the summer and is now fighting to be back in contention.

He joined in January from Real Betis and has since made a positive impression since moving to England. He made 19 appearances in all competitions during the second-half of last season and has adapted well to life in the Premier League.

Aston Villa will hope he can get back up to speed as soon as possible and help in their upcoming fixtures. Prior to his switch to Villa Park, the former Real Mallorca and Rayo Vallecano man played 122 games altogether for Betis and chipped in with six goals.

Jacob Ramsey broke his metatarsal on international duty with England Under-21’s in July and has been out of action since then. He is still recovering and isn’t quite ready to return just yet.

The 22-year-old played 38 matches last term and found the net on six occasions. His brother, Aaron, was sold to fellow top flight club Burnley last month.

Elsewhere, Tyrone Mings has joined Emiliano Buendia in the treatment room on a long-term basis. The defender sustained a significant knee injury during the clash against Newcastle United on the opening day of the campaign.

He now requires surgery and has a lengthy rehabilitation process. Aston Villa delved into the transfer market to bring in Pau Torres in his position from Villarreal and he has worked under Emery in the past.

Timothy Iroegbunam impressed on loan at QPR in the Championship last term and caught the eye with the London club. He has since returned to his parent club but is currently sidelined with a date for selection yet to be known at this stage.
