Aston Villa ‘in transfer fight’ with Newcastle United and Tottenham for Yannick Carrasco

Villa are looking to make a statement signing this summer

Aston Villa have reportedly joined the race to sign Yannick Carrasco from Atletico Madrid.

According to The Sun (via  Fichajes), Villa are set to fight it out with Newcastle and Tottenham for the highly rated Belgium winger.

The report states that £51 million pounds would be enough to trigger Carrasco’s release cause.

Newcastle United and Spurs both made moves to sign Atletico Madrid midfielder Yannick Carrasco on deadline, but the player was unwilling to move, according to Spanish reports. He's also played for the likes of Monaco and Dalian Professional. (Sport Witness)

Spurs reportedly want the 28-year-old for his ability to play wing-back, while Newcastle are eyeing Carrasco as they aim to make a statement signing this summer under their new Saudi-backed ownership.

The report states that Villa boss Steven Gerrard is also looking to do the same as they target European football next season.

Villa ‘line up’ French youth defender

Elsewhere, Villa are now said to be lining up a move for Frenchman Quentin Merlin.

According to The Sunday Mirror, the Birmingham club discovered the Nantes defender while scouting Kamara and are now interested in bringing him to the Premier League.

Merlin joined Nantes’ academy at 13 years old and made his debut for the senior team in February 2021, a month before signing his first professional contract with the club.

At only 20 years old, Merlin has heaps of potential and could be seen as the perfect defensive reinforcement for Steven Gerrard.
