Aston Villa are reportedly in discussions to sign Marseille midfielder Matteo Guendouzi. The Frenchman has played in the Premier League before with Arsenal and has emerged on the radar of Unai Emery again.

According to Football Insider, Villa are in ‘talks’ of a potential move to lure him back to England. The report suggests the player is valued at around the £30million mark by his current club and Morgan Sanson could head the other way as part of a deal.

Aston Villa would benefit from having some more competition and depth in the middle of the park and Guendouzi is obviously someone who Emery likes. He is a decent age at 23, already knows the league and has racked up just under 250 appearances already in his career to date.

Arsenal swooped to land him back in 2018 from FC Lorient and he went on to play 82 times for the Gunners in all competitions. However, he was shipped out on loan to both Hertha Berlin and Marseille during his last two years at the Emirates Stadium and was later sold on a permanent basis to the latter.

He has since been a key player at the Stade Vélodrome but they could potentially lose him this winter. Aston Villa have already brought in left-back Alex Moreno from Real Betis and have set their sights on more additions now before the window shuts in a couple of weeks.

In other news, full-back Kaine Kesler-Hayden has returned from his loan spell at Huddersfield Town. He played 12 times for the Terriers in the Championship.
