Aston Villa’s preparations for next season is well underway as Steven Gerrard prepares for his first full season in charge.

It wasn’t exactly a season to remember for Villa, and even after improvements under Gerrard, they could only manage a 14th place finish.

Significant improvements are required ahead of next season, and Gerrard is already making progress on new signings.

Boubacar Kamara, Philippe Coutinho and now Diego Carlos have all committed for next season, and Villa are not expected to stop there.

A top-half finish will be on the agenda for next season, and Gerrard will be acutely aware that his squad needs improving to achieve that feat, with the likes of Newcastle United, Brighton and others all improving significantly.

With that in mind, we have rounded up all the latest transfer rumours.

Villa are said to be in ‘regular contact’ with Atletico Madrid striker Luis Suarez.

The Lions have been heavily linked with a move for the striker, who will become a free agent in less than a month.

According to The Athletic, Villa are still looking to sign a striker, and Gerrard has been in contact with Suarez since January.

Villa are said to be considering a move for Suarez, but they are yet to push ahead.

The Uruguayan striker has said he has offers from North America and South America, but he wants to stay in Europe.

Fry update on Edwards

Peterborough United chief Barry Fry has provided an update on key man Ronnie Edwards, who has been linked with Villa.

“We’ve had many conversations with many clubs about Ronnie,” Fry told the Peterborough Telegraph.

“And we have had one bid from a Premier League club which we turned down as it fell well short of our valuation of the player.

“I’m not surprised he is getting linked with some big clubs, although I have not spoken to anyone from Southampton or Aston Villa.

“Ronnie has told me his preference is to stay in England and play in the Premier League, but he’s also happy to stay with us if we decide to keep him.

“He’s under contract for another three years so there is no rush. If our asking price isn’t met he won’t be leaving. I doubt anything will develop until Ronnie returns from England Under 19 duty in the summer. I would imagine some big clubs will be watching him closely in that tournament.”
