Aston Villa’s excitement for the new campaign has returned following their first win of the season.

After a strong summer, Villa suffered a reality check when they were beaten by newly promoted AFC Bournemouth on opening day.

But they have responded to that poor performance by defeating Everton at home in a hard fought win.

Villa will now be looking to build on that win to ensure a solid start to the season, and in the meantime, Steven Gerrard will be considering fresh additions.

With that in mind, we have rounded up all the latest news and transfer rumours surrounding Villa Park:

West Ham are said to be considering a move for Villa star Tyrone Mings.

According to Dean Jones, the Hammers are searching for defensive reinforcements, and Mings has emerged as an option.

That’s despite Mings returning to the team to play 90 minutes on Saturday.

Jones told GiveMeSport: “They’re not looking for a first-choice defender, they’re looking for someone that can fight to be part of that team. You could say, ‘Tyrone Mings is struggling with that battle himself for Aston Villa.

“It might just be that he needs a new club. He is one that West Ham are aware of and of thinking about, but we’ll have to see whether it actually turns into anything active.”

Watkins being eyed

Mings is not the only player attracting interest, with forward Ollie Watkins also being linked with a move away.

According to CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs, Leeds United are eyeing a move for Watkins, with Crystal Palace also interested.

“Nothing advanced on Blackburn’s Brereton Díaz. Not a lead target for #LUFC,” Jacobs tweeted.

“Several EPL clubs looked over past two windows but a few top scouts question whether his hold-up play and awareness (on/off ball) will enable him to be an EPL hit. Clear potential, though.

“A final name to mention is Ollie Watkins. Villa sources dismiss tension between Watkins and Steven Gerrard and maintain they don’t want to sell.

“Palace and Leeds monitoring. Key will be whether Watkins pushes for an exit. Villa calm about situation but no doubt one to watch.”
