In any case, Villa will be pleased with the progress they have made in the second half of the season, and they will be confident of kicking on next season.
To do that, though, new signings may well be needed, and here we look at all the latest rumours:

Villa are said to be leading the race to sign Leeds United star Kalvin Phillips.

And with Gerrard looking for midfield reinforcements, Phillips has been heavily linked with a move to Villa Park.
According to Football Insider, Villa and Newcastle are the current front runners to land the England international this summer.
Targett wish
Villa exile Matt Targett has made it clear he wants to join Newcastle United on a full-time basis during the coming transfer window.

“It’s a massive project, an exciting project, and I’m sure everyone wants to be a part of it.
“I’ve loved every single minute of my time here. It’s been an incredible place to play my football. I’ve loved every second of it.”
Targett has been on loan at St James’ Park since January, helping the Magpies to turn their season around and to secure safety.
