Aston Villa are in the process of picking up the pieces after a 2-1 defeat to West Ham United last weekend.

Steven Gerrard’s men had been on an improved run of form, but they suffered a setback against the Hammers, coming up just short.

Despite the defeat, Villa remain in the top half of the Premier League, though they do face top four hopefuls Arsenal this weekend in another tough test.

A top half finish will be the aim for the Villains between now and the end of the season, ahead of a bust summer of transfer business as Steven Gerrard looks to continue building his own side.

And here we look at the latest transfer rumours involving Villa:

Philips update

Leeds United and England star Kalvin Phillips has been linked with a move to Villa in recent weeks.

Gerrard is said to be a big fan of Phillips, and with Leeds struggling against the drop, a transfer could be on the cards.

The latest update, from the Daily Mail, claims Phillips will ‘assess his options’ this summer, providing hope for Villa over a transfer, regardless of whether Leeds go down or not.

Wijnaldum opportunity

Aston Villa could get their chance to land Gini Wijnaldum this summer, with the Dutchman going through a tough time at PSG.

Wijnaldum has struggled since his free transfer from Liverpool, and as PSG look to shuffle the pack, he is likely to be offloaded, according to L’Equipe.

Villa have been linked in the past, and according to Jeunes Footeux, the midfielder could be available for just £21million this summer.
