Aston Villa facing competition from West Ham and Newcastle United for La Liga and Portugal star

Real Betis midfielder William Carvalho is attracting interest from three Premier League clubs ahead of the summer transfer window, according to reports in Spain.

Aston Villa are said to be eyeing a move for the 30-year-old but face competition from West Ham and Newcastle United as Betis look to offload the player in order to reduce their wage bill.

The Portugal international joined the La Liga side in 2018 from Sporting Lisbon. He has played 29 games in all competitions for the club this term, scoring three goals and providing two assists.

Villa have done business with Real Betis already this year, having signed Alex Moreno in January in Unai Emery’s frst transfer window since arriving at the club.

Carvalho started his career with Sporting, making his debut in 2011. He had loan spells in his early seasons with the club at Fatima and Cercle Brugge.

He became a regular for the club after those loan spells, and made 193 appearances before moving to Spain, Sscoring 11 goals and providing 13 assists.

The midfielder joined Betis on a five-year deal in 2018 before agreeing a contract extension until 2026 last September. He has played 164 times for the Spanish outfit.
