Aston Villa deliver Arsenal, Man City & Liverpool transfer blow amid 'massive price tag' claim

Aston Villa are said to be pricing their Premier League rivals out of a move for one of their key stars.

Aston Villa may be about to put Douglas Luiz out of the reach of some of their Premier League rivals. The midfielder is reportedly attracting plenty of attention ahead of the winter window having come on leaps and bounds over the course of the last 18 months.

The 25-year-old was a key player in helping Villa turn things around under Unai Emery last season, helping the club reach the Europa Conference League, while he has remained a key player this season. Emery has Villa competing at the top end of the Premier League, sitting in fourth place as things stand.

Luiz has scored six and assisted four so far this term, while the best of his game arguably comes off the ball. According to reports, a number of clubs are interested in snapping up the 25-year-old, with Arsenal among those being linked. Liverpool and Manchester City have also been credited with an interest, with Luiz joining Villa from City back in 2019.

Though, according to Football Transfers, Villa will slap a huge price tag on Luiz in a bid to keep him, demanding as much as £110million this winter. The Midlands club are financially sound and do not need to sell, and they certainly won't want to sell to one of their potential rivals.

Luiz has a contract until 2026 having signed a new deal last year, and that allows Villa to take a firm stance. Interestingly, Luiz recently spoke about reported interest from elsewhere. He told Sky Sports: "I am very happy to hear the stories but I am here at Aston Villa. My focus is totally here. I don't spend a lot of time looking at the stories. I see them, but I don't focus on that and I'm not looking at it every day. My head is here at Aston Villa."

He added on Unai Emery: "Unai, honestly, is an incredible manager. Since he arrived here, he has changed the history of the club. Aston Villa is a very big club in England, but things weren't going so well. Unai has changed it. Now, people respect the club and the players more."
