Aston Villa ‘eye’ mega spending spree this summer as Arsenal monitor key transfer target

We are now less than a day away from the return of Premier League action, with the international break now in the rear-view mirror.

Aston Villa return to action on Saturday with a clash against Wolves on the agenda, and Steven Gerrard’s men will be keen to pick up points after defeat last time out.

Villa will be aiming to land a top-half spot between now and the end of the season, and there are plenty of teams in the mix.

Coutinho latest

Another day, another Philippe Coutinho update.

Aston Villa continue to search for a way to make Coutinho’s stay permanent amid the Brazilian’s huge wage demands.

But in the meantime, a number of clubs are being linked with hijacking the move, and the latest is Arsenal.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the Gunners are interested in pulling off a swoop for Coutinho, but remember, Villa do have the first option with that £34million option to buy.

Budget boost

Villa enjoyed a rather profitable summer of last, after selling Jack Grealish for around £100million.

And according to Football Insider, a large chunk of money could now be reinvested into the squad, with Gerrard set to be handed a ‘massive’ transfer budget to put his own spin on the squad this summer.

The report claims the Lions are ‘likely’ to spend over £150million on new signings in order to take the step up to the next level.
