Aston Villa have enjoyed a very healthy start to the summer transfer window.

Steven Gerrard will already be pleased with the progress managed in the early weeks of the window, with his squad already looking stronger.

Boubacar Kamara, Diego Carlos, Philippe Coutinho and Robin Olsen have all been snapped up, while Matt Targett has eased the spending bill after joining Newcastle United permanently.

That business has Villa looking a lot stronger already, and Gerrard will feel he and his side have a solid chance of improving significantly on last season’s 14th place finish.

But there will likely be twists and turns to come in the summer window, and with that in mind, we have rounded up all the latest transfer news and rumours surrounding Villa Park.

Morelos latest

One of many Rangers stars to have been linked with a move to link back up with Gerrard is Alfredo Morelos.

According to 90min, a deal could yet be on the table, but only on one condition.

The report claims Rangers are trying to agree a new contract with Morelos, who is out of terms this time next year.

It’s claimed that if the Gers cannot agree a deal, they will consider selling Morelos, and that could give Villa the chance they need, if indeed they do want to sign the striker this summer.

Phillips ‘bid’

Villa are said to have made a formal bid to sign Leeds United star Kalvin Phillips.

The defensive midfielder was linked with a move to Villa Park earlier in the summer, and Football Insider say a bid has now been submitted.

It’s also claimed West Ham have also put in an offer, while Manchester City are ‘in contact’.

The Citizens are said to be favourites to pull off a deal, given their econmic resources, but Villa are believed to be pushing for a deal.
