Aston Villa could face double transfer exit before deadline as Chelsea and Newcastle interest grows

Two Aston Villa players have been linked with exits before the January transfer window slams shut on February 1st

Newcastle United are interested in Aaron Ramsey and Chelsea could ramp up their efforts to sign Jhon Duran as Aston Villa face two potential exits before the conclusion of the January transfer window.

This is according to The Athletic journalist David Ornstein on X (formerly Twitter), who also mentions that Tottenham Hotspur and Bayern Munich are interested in a move for Ramsey. Additionally, Chelsea are set to abandon their pursuit of Real Madrid legend Karim Benzema - instead, they will focus their efforts on bringing Duran to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea need to sign a striker - Armando Broja and Nicolas Jackson have failed to fill the void in their team so far. Given Todd Boehly's propensity for signing young talents, it makes sense that the Blues would eye up the 20-year-old Colombia international.

Should Aston Villa allow Jhon Duran or Jacob Ramsey to leave the club in January?

While neither Ramsey or Duran have been regular first-team starters for Villa this season, they are two of their most valuable young players - to let them go could be a major blow to the future success of the club and could cause discontent within the Villa fanbase.

Duran has yet to start a game in the Premier League this season, but he has made 14 appearances from the bench - over the course of these games, he has scored a pair of goals and has racked up a solitary assist.

Ramsey, despite starting in more games that Duran, has enjoyed comparatively less success than his contemporary. He has played in ten Premier League games for the Villans in 2023/24, scoring one goal - he has not registered any assists as of yet. He has made four appearances in cup competitions, both domestic and European, but he hasn't made any goal contributions in any of these games.
