Back-to-back defeats have followed consecutive wins for Villa, and that was not the ideal way to into the break.

Having said that, they remain in the top half as things stand, and they still have plenty of games remaining to finish the season on a high.

For now, it’s time for a pause from club football, but while we wait for the Premier League to return, let’s take a look at the latest Villa transfer rumours.

Former Liverpool star Gini Wijnaldum is already being linked with a move away from Paris Saint-Germain, having only joined the Ligue 1 giants last summer.

Wijnaldum has struggled to fit in at PSG, and the French club are expected to shuffle their ranks this summer amid their early Champions League exit.

The midfielder could leave as a result, and TeamTalk are reporting Villa could offer him a return to the Premier League.

They are unlikely to be alone, however, given Wijnaldum’s success in England the last time around.

Targett twist

There is a twist in the Matt Targett situation following reports the Magpies had agreed a permanent deal for the Villa man.

According to TeamTalk, Championship leaders Fulham, who are heading to the Premier League, are now eyeing a move for Targett.

It’s reported it will take £15million to lure Targett from Villa Park full-time.
