Aston Villa are set to face major competition for one of their transfer targets - Juventus full back Andrea Cambiaso, who Villa reportedly tried to snap up in the summer transfer window, has now been linked with a move to reigning La Liga champions Real Madrid.
Reports suggest that Cambiaso ‘wants’ to move to Madrid, despite the player stating the contrary. He could make the jump to Madrid as soon as January - meaning Villa will need to act fast if they want to retain their chances of signing him.

Former Villa scout Mick Brown spoke with Football Insider [via TEAMtalk]: “I’m told [Cambiaso] wants to go to Madrid. From the player’s point of view, a move to Real Madrid will always appeal.
“The manager there already knows him from his days on Merseyside. And if his contract situation is such that it allows him to explore a deal in January, I’ve heard there’s a very strong possibility that a move will happen.”
Nevertheless, Cambiaso remains committed to Juventus - in a recent interview, he said [via Corriere dello Sport]: “Just being attached to a team like [Real Madrid] seems like something larger than me.

I’ve extended my contract until 2029, and I’d like to stay as long as possible. The Bianconeri represent the history of Italian football, a second family, and a great arrival point for my career.”
As such, both Madrid and Villa could face disappointment if they mount a serious effort to bring Cambiaso on board - he is happy at Juventus and it appears that it will take a lot of convincing for him to leave the Allianz Stadium.
