Aston Villa bid to end their winless run when they host Brentford at Villa Park in the Premier League on Wednesday (December 4).

The Villains are winless in their last five straight league matches, which is the first time since August 2022 when Steven Gerrard was in charge. They are currently on the joint longest run without a game with Everton and Leicester City also without a victory in five matches.

Brentford come to the West Midlands having won 4-1 against Leicester City at the weekend. Despite going behind to the Foxes, Kevin Schade scored a hat-trick and Yoane Wissa was also on target as the Bees ran out comfortable winners. Aston Villa team news

Aston Villa will be sweating on the fitness of goalkeeper Emi Martinez who came off injured against Chelsea. Robin Olsen replaced Martinez at half-time after the Argentine shot-stopper said he felt some discomfort in his hand. He will now undergo a scan to assess the severity of the injury, which puts him as a possible doubt for the game against Brentford.

In his pre-match press conference prior to the game against Chelsea, Emery said that Amadou Onana would be assessed. He had missed the last two games prior and he played no part at Stamford Bridge. The Belgian suffered an injury whilst on international duty but a return is in sight.

Jacob Ramsey has been missing for the last couple of weeks with a hamstring injury. He picked up his problem against Liverpool before the international break. Emery ruled him out against Chelsea, and so it appears Onana is the closest out of the midfield pair.

Out: Jacob Ramsey. Doubt: Emi Martinez and Amadou Onana.

Brentford team news

Mathias Jensen came off injured in Saturday's win against Leicester City. He came off three minutes before the half-time whistle and was replaced by Vitaly Janelt.

It was his [left] hamstring," Frank said when asked about Jensen’s withdrawal.

"We need to assess him tomorrow but it was more precautionary. I hope he will be okay, but we need to see tomorrow."

A knee injury likely has Josh Dasilva out until the New Year. Gustavo Nunes and Kristoff Ajer have back and foot injuries respectively and are more likely to return at the weekend against Newcastle United.

Aaron Hickey is to miss the majority of the campaign after picking up a hamstring injury which ruled him out of EURO 2024. He's not played for the Bees since October 2023, and after getting his tendon repaired, he has a long road to recovery.

Rico Henry is in a similar position after suffering an ACL injury in September 2023. It was the second serious knee injury of his career, but Henry is ahead of Hickey in regards to a return.

Out: Joshua Dasilva, Gustavo Nunes, Kristoff Ajer, Aaron Hickey and Rico Henry. Doubt: Mathias Jensen
