Villa enter the game having drawn 2-2 with Ipswich Town on Sunday. Ollie Watkins put Villa in front after Morgan Rogers cancelled out Liam Delap’s opened but Delap netted a second, as Unai Emery’s men clung on for a point.

Bayern, managed by former Burnley boss and Man City defender Vincent Kompany, played to a 1-1 draw with Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen. Aleksandar Pavlovic equalised for the hosts after Robert Andrich gave Leverkusen the lead.

Aston Villa team news

It’s only a small doubt, but Sky Sports said that Rogers came off at Portman Road because of a tight hamstring. Rogers has discovered some form in recent weeks, supplying two assists against Wolves, and getting on the score sheet against Ipswich.

Boubacar Kamara and Tyrone Mings are still working their way back following serious knee injuries. Kamara suffered his in February, whilst Mings has been out for more than a year after being stretchered off on the opening day of the 2023/24 Premier League season.

Matty Cash was hoping to be involved against Bayern, and spoke of his desire to get himself fit, but he’s not played since the defeat to Arsenal, which was more than a month ago.

John McGinn sustained a hamstring injury in the win against Wolves and is expected to be out for the next two to three weeks. It means he'll not only miss the game against Bayern, but will also be out of Scotland's Nations League matches this month.

Harry Kane could miss out on a return to England after suffering an injury at the weekend. He was seen clutching his face before limping off with an ankle injury as Thomas Muller replaced him in the latter stages of the 1-1 draw with Bayer Leverkusen.

Three Lions captain Kane addressed the injury, and said: "It happened during a tackle, it was painful. We'll investigate further tomorrow.” He was then aasked whether he would feature on Wednesday, and replied: "I assume that I can play."

Defender Sacha Boey is ruled out after suffering a meniscus tear in his left knee during a training session earlier this month. The 24-year-old underwent a successful operation, but is out of action for the next few weeks.

Another injury in defence is Josip Stanisic, who tore a collateral ligament in his right knee during a training session in August. He like Boey had to undergo surgery, and will be unavailable for a month at least.

Arijon Ibrahimovic tore a muscle in the back of his left thigh in pre-season and is another absentee. The 18-year-old was due to be given a chance this season, but is facing time on the sidelines, though he could return soon.
