The Villans have announced a new long-term contract for a key player, putting it beyond doubt that no transfer will take him away from Villa Park.

Aston Villa captain John McGinn has signed a new, long-term contract to keep him at Villa Park until at least June 2027.

The midfielder has been one of the first names on the team sheet under Unai Emery and has been rewarded with a bumper deal.

Staying until the end of his new agreement would mean a near 10-year stay as he signed from Hibernian for a mere £2.65 million fee in 2018.

Verging on the title of club legend, McGinn was crucial to helping the Villans return to the Premier League in 2019.

The Scotsman was a goalscorer at Wembley Stadium in the play-off final and has been pivotal to Villa’s progression ever since.

Now 28 years of age, McGinn is very much in his prime as he leads the men in claret and blue to their first European tour in well over a decade.

Versatile enough to compete effectively in a whole host of midfield roles, McGinn is bound to remain a key man under Emery for seasons to come.
