Steven Gerrard was familiar with the young striker from his time in Scotland and Aston Villa quickly emerged as favourites to snap him up.

The Midlands club have batted off competition from a number of English sides and will have to pay only a £300,000 development fee for his signature, with Romano reporting the move will be made official in July 1.

Gerrard has made his intentions to invest in youth clear since his arrival at Villa Park, giving chances to the lkes of Jacob Ramsey, Carney Chukwuemeka and Tim Iroegbunam.

Wilson could become Villa’s fifth transfer of the summer after already welcoming Diego Carlos and Boubacar Kamara, as well as signing Philippe Coutinho and Robin Olsen permanently.

With both Cameron Archer and Keinan Davis shining during their loan spells last season, Wilson could join some very talented youth stars making up a promising future for the Premier League club.
