A national team manager has provided an update to the press about the injury status of an Aston Villa midfielder.

Belgium boss Domenico Tedesco has called up Aston Villa midfieldr Amadou Onana for their upcoming matches, despite a slight injury worry.

Onana came off on the hour mark in Villa's 1-0 win over Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday night. As a result, he is a doubt for Villa's Premier League clash with Manchester United at the weekend, and Belgium's Nations League matches.

The 23-year-old who was signed from Everton for a reported £50m, has undergone tests, which were said to be 'positive' but the situation will need to be monitored. Belgium play Italy (October 10 and France (October 14), and whilst Onana has been included in the squad, there is always the possibility he could be replaced, should an injury prevent him with linking up for international duty.

Speaking to Belgian newspaper HLN Sport, Todeso said: “Onana has a small problem, but an MRI was positive & otherwise we will replace him with a youngster. He will try to play, but we will monitor him..”

The 20-time Belgian international has played and started in all nine of Villa's matches this season. He's done all six of their Premier League games, though he was brought off at the break against Everton, whilst he also had an hour against Wycombe Wanderers in the Carabao Cup.

Unai Emery has yet to provide an update on Onana’s situation, but is due to speak to the press at Bodymoor Heath today, prior to their game at the weekend. Jacob Ramsey also came off in the first-half, and so Villa are sweating on the fitness of a number of their players.
