Aston Villa full-back Ashley Young was one of the names included in Gareth Southgate’s provisional 55-man England squad for the World Cup, according to a report. The 37-year-old, who has proven to be a good rotation option at Villa Park, is being considered by the Three Lions boss ahead of the tournament.

The Daily Telegraph claims the former Manchester United man was on the list, although there is no real expectation of him making the final squad. Southgate can only bring 26 players with him to Qatar, causing a real selection headache. The provisional 55-man plan was put out to make things a little easier.

Young has played 10 times for England at senior level in the past, though his last appearance was back in 2018 - when he was 33. Other Villa stars expected to be in contention are centre back pairing Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa, as well as forward man Ollie Watkins. The final squad announcement takes place on Thursday, November 10.
