Aston Villa are one English football’s biggest club’s.
The Villa have won the league title seven times, and of course, won the European cup in 1982 - one of only five English clubs to do so.
After a difficult start to the Premier League campaign, Villa’s form has picked up under new boss Unai Emery with the club now in 12th place in the table and looking to finish the second half of the season strongly once the campaign resumes following the World Cup.
With that in mind, we’ve decided to have a look at some of the best photos from Villa’s history in the 1960s and 70s.
Even though the club won the inaugural League Cup in 1960, the club were to enter into a slightly underwhelming period at the start of the 60s. The 1960s saw much change at Villa Park. By the end of the decade, Villa were languishing in the Second Division and fan pressure led to the resignation of the Board and the introduction of Doug Ellis as Villa Chairman.
And of course under Doug, Villa had great success, with the club establishing itself as one of the biggets in the country in the process.
Here are 15 brilliant photos of Villa players from the 1960s and 70s.
