But it was Trézéguet’s country that emerged victorious and the striker says it was a moment of pride for him and they will try and win it before returning to their clubs.
He added: “I think we have played every game like we had 120 minutes and we had to fight very hard to get to this final.
“Playing against the host nations and the fans, I must say we made our country proud by playing the way we did.

“We have made our people proud but the job is not done. Now is the time to go on and win Insha Allah before we return to club football.”
Egypt’s history at the AFCON
Egypt is the most successful team in the history of the AFCON having won the competition seven times but their last triumph came in 2010 in Angola.
They also hold the enviable record being the last team to have hosted and won the tournament in 2006, since then, no host nations have made it to the final.

In the case Egypt wins the tournament, he is likely to travel with his teammates back to Cairo for the heroes welcome and only after that will he be the thinking of flying back to the midlands.
In the case that Egypt lose the final the situation doesn’t improve significantly as second place is still a respectable finish and he will likely still have to travel back home for the subdued reception.
Realistically he should be back in the midland and be ready for the visit to Newcastle but there is a huge chance that he would be given a few days off after what has been grueling a tournament.
