Premier League rivals Leeds United are also considered a possible destination for the former Liverpool winger, 25, who moved to Glasgow from Anfield in 2019 for £6.5 million after impressing on loan the previous season.

Kent has scored just one goal in 14 appearances across all competitions for the Scottish champions this season but has been a standout during his three previous seasons with the club.

How likely are Aston Villa to sign Ryan Kent?

SkyBet have priced the move at 6/1, suggesting it may be some way off.

However, he is a player that Villa boss Steve Gerrard knows well and has managed to get the best out of before.

Meanwhile, Rangers are expected to move one or two players on in the January transfer window after the Glasgow club announced huge losses last year.

After three and a half seasons of impressive performances in both the Scottish Premiership and Europa League, Kent could prove a decent edition to the ranks at Villa Park if a deal can be struck.

Who else is interested in signing Ryan Kent?

Leeds United are also in the betting market but are far longer odds than Villa at 12/1.

Both Villa and Leeds could do with adding more creative players to their squads so Kent would be a good fit at either Villa Park or Elland Road.

However, having worked under Gerrard previously, it seems likely that Villa would be his preferred destination out of the two.

Kent has made just one Premier League appearance in his career and it came very early on in the 2015/16 season with boyhood club Liverpool.

He had loan spells at Coventry City, Barnsley and Bristol City as well as in Germany with SC Freiburg before his move to Rangers.

Will Aston Villa sign any other players from Rangers?

SkyBet are also offering odds on Villa signing Colombian striker Alfredo Morelos from Steve Gerrard’s old club.

The 25-year old is priced at 8/1 for a move to Villa Park while French Ligue 1 sides Lille and Lyon are also in the market at 10/1.

Morelos has been with Rangers since 2017 and has been a prolific goalscorer during his time at Ibrox.

The 25-year old has scored nine goals across 25 appearances in all competitions this season.
