Aston Villa have been linked with a move for Brentford goalkeeper David Raya as regular number one Emiliano Martinez continues to attract interest from abroad.

The Argentina international has become a popular figure at Villa Park after joining Villa in a £17m move from Arsenal in September 2020. His form with the club was taken into international level and the 30-year-old played a key role in Argentina’s historic World Cup Final win over France in December.

The likes of Roma and Juventus have both been named as admirers of Martinez and the latest reports have suggested Brentford stopper Raya has been lined up as a potential replacement should the former Arsenal man depart Villa Park this summer.

CBS Sports have claimed the Bees keeper is on a list of targets although the likes of Chelsea and Spurs are both ‘considering moves as they look to boost their options in goal. However, the report also states Brentford are looking for a fee of around £40m, which all three potential suitors believe is ‘too high’.

Ajax ‘enquire’ over possible move for Wolves star

Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Fabio Silva is reportedly the subject of interest from Dutch giants Ajax after impressing during a loan spell with Eredivise rivals PSV Eindhoven.

The Portuguese frontman spent the second half of last season at the Phillips Stadion after cutting short a loan spell with Belgian club Anderlecht. Five goals and two assists in 19 appearances may well seem a modest return for the 20-year-old but it has been enough to entice interest from Ajax with PSV said to be unable to convert the loan into a permanent move this summer.

Dutch journalist Rik Elfrink told AD Voetbalpodcast: “This season with Silva has shown that you need a good second striker.

“That Ajax enquired is seen as a game by the agents. That he is on the radar there I don’t think is so crazy. He wouldn’t be out of place at Ajax, as would he be at PSV behind Luuk de Jong. Loaning him again will not work, that is an expensive business. And buying him is definitely not on the cards.”
