The new Premier League season got off to a disappointing start for Aston Villa but a confirmed list of squad numbers for the 2022/23 campaign should help reduce the early woes somewhat.

There had been a lot of positive anticipation ahead of the opening weekend with some high-quality additions made to the squad in the summer transfer window, but it simply wasn’t to be at the Vitality Stadium. Steven Gerrard’s side didn’t even net a single goal as they stumbled to a disappointing 2-0 defeat away to newly-promoted side AFC Bournemouth.

Some distraction though is the fact we now know what squad numbers the likes of new signings Coutinho and Diego Carlos have been assigned. There have also been some changes for those who’ve been at the club a little longer.

Here’s everything you need to know about Aston Villa’s official squad numbers for the 2022/2023 season.

Steven Gerrard has welcomed the addition of Valencia centre back Diego Carlos, with the world-class defender signing for a fee of around £28 million. The Brazilian adds a lot of quality to Villa’s already solid defence.

Another Brazilian added to the ranks is Philippe Coutinho, whose loan deal from Barcelona was made permanent this summer. The former Liverpool winger signs from the Catalan giants for £18 million.

Robin Olsen is another player to switch from a loan move to a permanent deal as Villa paid AS Roma £3 million for his services. The goalkeeper comes in as a backup to Argentina international Emiliano Martinez.

Ludwig Augustinsson is another defensive acquisition; the Swede coming in to give left-back Luca Digne some competition. The 28-year-old arrives at Villa Park from Sevilla on a season-long loan deal.

Last but certainly not least is defensive midfielder Boubacar Kamara, who incredibly, despite already being involved in the senior France squad, signs on a free transfer. The Villans managed to snap up Kamara after his Marseille contract expired.
