Rock band Foo Fighters have cancelled their upcoming world tour following the tragic death of drummer Taylor Hawkins

The band were due to play a handful of shows in the UK, including a gig at Villa Park on 27 June.

Foo Fighters announced on social media on Tuesday that they would be cancelling all upcoming tour dates, including the Birmingham gig.

The statement reads: “It is with great sadness that Foo Fighters confirm the cancellation of all upcoming tour dates in light of the staggering loss of our brother Taylor Hawkins.

“We’re sorry for and share in the disappointment that we won’t be seeing one another as planned.

“Instead, let’s take this time to grieve, to heal, to pull loved ones close, and to appreciate all the music and memories we’ve made together.”

Why has the tour been cancelled?

The Foo Fighters had a long list of tour dates planned in nations across the world.

The tour started back in April in Memphis, Tennessee, with the band due to play in the UK between 25 June and 2 July.

The final date of the tour was due to be in Auckland New Zealand on 17 December.

Foo Fighters have cancelled their tour following the tragic death of their drummer Taylor Hawkins.

Taylor was found dead in his hotel room in Bogotá on Friday, 25 March, just hours before the band were due to perform at Colombia’s Estéreo Picnic festival as part of its South American tour.

The performance would have been their first in Columbia for three years.

Following the news of his death, the band issued a statement on their social media pages.

A spokesperson said: “The Foo Fighters family is devastated by the tragic and untimely loss of our beloved Taylor Hawkins.

“His musical spirit and infectious laughter will live on with all of us forever.

“Our hearts go out to his wife, children and family, and we ask that their privacy be treated with the utmost respect in this unimaginably difficult time.”

Can I get a refund on tickets?

With all upcoming tour dates cancelled, information has been issued on people who had tickets for the Villa Park gig can get a refund.

For tickets purchased through Ticketmaster, the buyer doesn’t need to do anything.

Refunds will be automatically processed through Ticketmaster, and the refund will be received within 30 days.

On Live Nation, people visiting the Foo Fighters events page receive a notification telling them that the event has been cancelled, no action is required and ticket refunds will be received from the event organiser within 30 days.

Who was Taylor Hawkins?

Taylor Hawkins was born in Fort Worth, Texas in 1972.

From 1995 to 1997, Hawkins was the drummer for Alanis Morissette before in March 1997, it was announced that he would become the new drummer for Foo Fighters.

Hawkins was an integral part of the band and was part of Foo Fighters rise to world wide rock legends status in the 20002 and 2010s.

Taylor was a part of the band for eight out of their 10 studio albums, including their 2021 record Medicine at Midnight

Taylor leaves behind a wife who he married in 2005 and three children.
