The incident involves a caravan and a large quantity of rubbish well alight beneath the bridge archway. The public have been warned to avoid the area while emergency services deal with the incident.

The blaze has caused severe travel disruption in Wolverhampton this morning, with some trains from the city to Birmingham New Street being cancelled. West Midlands Railway says train services running through these stations will be cancelled or delayed this morning, and that the disruption is expected to last until around 11am today.

The fire service said no casualties have been reported at this time. A statement from the fire service, read: “Due to 999 eye footage received by Staffordshire and West Midlands Fire Control, our team mobilised additional resources, prior to firefighters’ arrival.

“Crews currently have 1 main jet and three hose reel jets tackling the blaze. Due to smoke affecting the rail line, which runs over the bridge above the incident, a stoppage of rail travel has been requested. This will affect rail travel through this area and result in delays or cancellations of nearby rail services. Please follow Transport for West Midlands for rail travel updates.”
