Birmingham is one of the most desirable cities to move to according to a survey by CompareTheMarket.

The research looked at Google searches to come up with the numbers. Birmingham is definitely an exciting city to live in, recent years have seen a renaissance of sorts, with more opportunities for residents and its continued growth will naturally entice outsiders into the region.

The city is diverse though, so we asked Brummies whicharea they would recommend most. I also asked where would people like to live if they could choose anywhere in the world.

Paul says: “Crikey, there’s so many great places in Birmingham. There’s also so much going on with Birmingham. I used to live in Birmingham many years ago, we lived in Bearwood, kind of off the Ladypool Road.

“So I suppose anywhere, that’s kind of accepting of difference, that’s accepting of independent shops, independent stores, you know - kind of a positive community attitude.”

Farron says: “Yeah, I don’t really have a good answer. Purely because I love a lot of different parts of Birmingham. The area around where we live - in Kings Heath - is absolutely lovely.

“And we have the kindest and most accepting of neighbours. But I don’t think that singally applies to where we are. I think that’s something that applies to Birmingham in general. “

Hannah says: “I mean, I’d probably say a bit further outside of the city, but I really liked the Jewellery Quarter. And the Gun Quarter - that’s where I am.”

Christine had some big ideas about where she would live if she coudl choose anywhere away from Birmingham, saying: “Anywhere by the sea.

“Yeah, still this country. Because I wouldn’t leave my family but yeah, by the sea, overlooking the sea, and yeah, be able to walk along there. The south coast. “

Farron says: “If I could live absolutely anywhere, I think it’d be Toronto. Toronto just has a huge variety of different people that live there.

“It’s got loads of different areas that at one point are both inclusive and welcoming, but at the same time, or a safe haven for different people. And so just the variety of different people that live there is wonderful.”
