We recently published a list of the richest neighbourhoods in Birmingham, Solihull and Sandwell, based on the latest figures published by the Office for National Statistics.

The lists we have compiled uses figures for so-called Middle Layer Super Output Areas (MSOA) within the West Midlands. The estimates were calculated using regional figures from the Family Resources Survey and modelling down to neighbourhood level based on characteristics of the neighbourhood obtained from census and administrative statistics.

The figures total annual household income is the sum of the gross income of every member of the household plus any income from benefits such as Working Families Tax Credit.

What is the region’s richest neighbourhood?

And analysing the data further has highlighted that Monkspath North in Solihull is the richest neighbourhood in the West Midlands. The estimated average annual household income for Monkspath North is £61,300.

In fact, the top 6 richest neighbourhoods in the West Midlands are all in Solihull. The second richest in the region is Dickens Heath, Cheswick Green & Hockley Heath, where the estimated average annual household income for the neighbourhood is £59,000.

Central Solihull & Sharmans Cross is the third richest, where the estimated average annual household income is £58,100. Dorridge is fourth, with estimated annual incole of 57,600, and Monkspath South is the fifth richest neighbourhood in the region, where the estimated average annual household income is £57,100.

Balsall Common is the sixth richest, with the estimated average annual household income is £57,100, with the 7th richest neighbourhood in the region being Little Sutton & Roughley in Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham.

The data doesn’t include statistics on where Monkspath ranks out of the richest neighbourhoods in the UK or what jobs people do who live in these areas, although Solihull has long been one of the more affluent towns in the region.

For example, Barston, just a few miles east of Solihull, was named one of the poshest villages to live in the UK according to a recent list released by The Telegraph. Solihull also has relatively high house prices and excellent schools, and is of course also very close to Birmingham, one of the UK’s major cities.

What is Monkspath like?

Since the early 2000s, the area has become increasingly commercialised with the expansion of the Monkspath Business Park, Solar Park and Fore Business Park and is now a large housing estate.

Shelley Farm, one of the only surviving 19th-century buildings in the area has now been converted into a public house. The neighbourhood is served by the No 5 bus route and the local railway station is Widney Manor Railway station, and a number of top schools are nearby.

What about local schools?

The local primary schools include Monkspath Junior and Infant School, St. Alphege C of E Infant School, St. Alphege C of E Junior School, St. Augustine’s Catholic Primary School and Our Lady of the Wayside Catholic Primary School.

Local secondary schools include Alderbrook School, Tudor Grange Academy and St Peter’s Catholic School, with Solihull Sixth Form College and Solihull College a short distance nearby.
