Police have prosecuted hundreds more careless and dangerous drivers as a result of footage sent to them by other motorists.

The force said that of 743 cases people sent to them in the last month - 601 (81%) have resulted in ‘positive outcomes’ which includes warning letters, education courses, fines and court appearances. This is a dramatic increase from July when 325 cases of bad driving were sent to WMP with officers only able to take action in four per cent.

Tanya Johnson, who leads the team, said: “We hope that by sharing some of the footage that’s been sent in, it’ll encourage other dashcam and helmet cam users to send in their own images, and to make people think twice before they run a red light, use their phone while driving, or put lives at risk by other dangerous or careless driving.”
