A fire has broken out at a flat above a shop in Wednesbury town centre today (Friday, February 16).

Fire crews and police were called to the incident after the blaze broke out in the flat which is located above the Nail Room salon in Ridding Lane. Fire crews from West Bromwich, Bilston and Tipton attended and extinguished the fire.

West Midlands Fire Service said there were no casualties or injuries.

A statement from the fire service, read: "Shortly after 10.40am on Friday (16 February), we responded to Ridding Lane, Wednesbury.

Fire engines from Tipton and Bilston, and a 4×4 brigade response vehicle from West Bromwich attended. This was a fire in a flat above commercial premises, in a three-storey building.

The fire was extinguished by crews wearing breathing apparatus and the property ventilated.

"There were no casualties or injuries. Police colleagues are also in attendance."
